We continue our mini-interview series with Thomas Probst, Work Package Manager for Ariane 6 upper stage production in Bremen. He develops efficient work routines to ensure on-time, on-cost and on-quality manufacture, assembly and test of the Ariane 6 upper stage.
My job is to ensure that everything runs smoothly in the production facilities, by establishing our ‘working logic’ in terms of routines and methods, making sure that everybody understands their roles and responsibilities, priorities and production objectives, and that all processes are correctly followed.
Together with the Product Manager I set up a timeline with clearly specified steps and deliverables, and should a problem occur I have to keep everything on course by adjusting production schedules and re-prioritizing tasks.
Being part of the build and delivery of the first test models and flight model is a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Working on first models is a huge challenge; I value the problem-solving experience we have gained. Plus we have had the difficulties of the COVID situation, but I am extremely proud of what we have achieved and thankful for having such a great team and good leaders around me.
I’m a very forward-thinking person. On occasion, in my spare time, I daydream about the future and think about the things that we can improve. I would love to work on future projects and, in particular, on the technologies and preparation for the next European launcher.
