VIDEO: HOT, HOT HOT! TESTING THE VULCAIN®2.1 ENGINE FOR THE FIRST ARIANE 6 FLIGHT

At the end of July, the Vulcain®2.1 engine for the first Ariane 6 flight successfully passed its acceptance test

This test is the first ‘production’ test for the Vulcain®2.1 engine. The engine and test bed were fitted with more than 80 specific measurement sensors to characterize acoustics. This makes it possible to predict the expected levels at the launch pad in Kourou, notably during the stage tests planned for 2021.

This cryogenic engine delivers 135 metric tons of thrust in a vacuum. It will drive the Ariane 6 for the first eight minutes of flight.

Heading for the maiden flight!
